What you'll learn in this food tours class:

In the past decade, the East Village has transformed from a post-punk wasteland to an east-coast outpost of Japanese culture. From Ramen to Squid, Bubble Tea to Curry, we'll explore all the internationally influenced food Little Tokyo has to offer.

Which fast food chains have their only American outposts in Little Tokyo? What's the difference between traditional and modern Japanese desserts? What are the three primary flavors of Japanese street food? The answers to these questions and more as you learn to eat in the neighborhood where New York and Tokyo meet.

We'll meet in Manhattan, in front of 101 Astor Place by the Keith Haring sculpture.

The cost of this tour includes four tastings of sweet and savory snacks. Vegetarian options are available.
If you're looking for a refund, you need to back out of the class a week before it starts. We know it's draconian, but since we're not charging a million bucks, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings. Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around your friends and see if anyone would take your spot, then just get money from them! We also can't switch you between class sessions or give any sort of refund after the class happens.

The tour was a fun and educational talk about the history of the neighborhood and how it came to be little Tokyo. Lots of fun restaurants, shops, and hole in the walls to discover! We got to try many different foods known in Japan- both sweet and savory! Overall, a great and compact experience :)

I am sorry I had to rush off ... I did enjoy the course up to that point - not sure what followed in the way of food -- the history was good and the host was very informative
