What you'll learn in this coffee class:

Interested in tasting a variety of coffees using the industry’s standard method for evaluation? This 1.5 hour class teaches students the valuable and crucial skill used by all coffee professionals throughout the supply chain. Cupping is a methodical process used to evaluate different coffees side by side used by green buyers to choose which coffees to purchase, by roasters to help guide their roast profiles, and by baristas to know how to best brew and serve coffees in the cafe.

Our Cupping for Beginners class will cover all of the techniques and protocol for cupping, and will also focus on essential tasting techniques and terminology that is commonly used in the industry. After cupping several coffees, students will have a chance to taste their favorite coffees brewed to see how the flavors on the cupping table translate into the final beverage.

All materials are included in the price and students are welcome to take photos and write down notes throughout the class. After the class, students will be able to purchase coffee and equipment from our Pro Shop at a 10% discount. No experience necessary.

Content was not bad. Overall good experience but it was somewhat disorganized particularly at the end, when we would discuss the characteristics of the different coffees that we had. Also, they did have stools for people to seat available but they were on the side. When a few attendants asked if it would be ok for them to seat down while the instructors were speaking and teaching, they seemed very annoyed. They could have had the stools ready for everybody to seat as opposed of having people stand for the whole class.

Underwhelming for $30.00. We just smelled and barely tasted 4 different coffees in one hour. I didn't take away anything of great significance.

I'm a coffee snob,, so I was excited to find this coffee cupping or tasting class at teh JOE Pro Shop location. Elliot was a very knowledgeable coffee educator who was patient with all the questions with our large class, so thank you! A great experience for sure and well worth it!
