Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this sushi making class:

Sushi-making doesn't have to be limited to the view from a seat at your local Japanese restaurant. Bring the sushi bar home by practicing your skills at preparing nigiri (sashimi fish on top of thumb-size, compact sushi rice), perfecting the texture of rice, and learning the proper techniques to create a stellar hand roll.

Once you've gotten the basics down, you will try your hand at:

  • sushi rice
  • maki and futomaki rolls (both thin and thick), inside-out rolls
  • nigiri
  • temaki (hand roll)
  • miso soup
  • edamame.

You will soon learn that sushi is something you too can master.

Note:
We serve wine in our classes. It is against our policy for guests to bring in any type of alcoholic beverages.

I like the artistic aspect of making sushi (putting whatever meat/fish and veggie inside) and then decorating the plate with all sorts and varieties of handmade sushi.

Teacher was good, very upset that class ended at 9pm instead of 10:30. We paid for four and a half hours and got less than three. Teacher also sat there much of the class. She could have walked around and helped students do things correctly. She only helped when asked and did not really teach. Some people did not get it and put way too much rice on the paper, and she never said anything to them. They were not ale to roll or make real rolls, but she just sat there and talked to a few students. She could have walked around the table and and worked with each person individually and helped them do one proper roll, instead of just sitting there. Also she had each set of students make something at the same time (like soup, peas, rice). we had enough time that we could have watched them make the soup, and it would have stayed hot enough for us to eat together. There were steps to making the soup that she helped them with that the rest of us would have liked to learn, but we were doing our own thing. Also when the rice was done, we did not see how to mix the liquid into it, they did that alone so we never learned that. Although the class was fun, we did not learn a lot and probably won't take another one with her again. As we left at 9pm, every other class was still learning and not eating yet, and we were headed home already - the more i write and think the less satisfied I am. She blew off 90 minutes of time that we could have done something. For what we paid, I am not happy.
