Class Description

Description

Knowing how to use knives skillfully is the foundation of all cooking, and doesn't have to be scary or frustrating. Many home and even professional cooks don't always wield a knife correctly, however, which increases food preparation time and makes the process harder --- and less safe --- than it should be. Simply put, good knives are the foundation of a well-equipped kitchen.

This class remedies all these basic issues: You will learn how to slice, dice, chop, and much more in the safest and most efficient manner. This class will even guide you through the practice of keeping your knives sharp and handling them correctly.

School Notes:

Important:  If you have registered any guests without a first and last name when booking, please email [email protected] with all guest first and last names so that they can be cleared for security.

Please note that a valid ID is required for entry into ICE's building.

Upon arrival to 225 Liberty Street, proceed to the security desk on the 2nd floor located next to Hudson Eats to check in.

If this is your first time visiting ICE, you may want to leave yourself 30 minutes to find your way to our lobby at 225 Liberty Street.

We will begin checking guests in 15 minutes before the class start time. Please note that classes will enjoy the menu at the end of class. While a snack platter is offered in both morning and evening classes, you may want to consider a light snack before joining us for class. Additionally, for those enrolled in a pastry or knife skills class, a meal is not planned so we recommend bringing a snack. Class menus subject to change.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY

To register for any class, payment in full is required at the time of registration. Two weeks withdrawal notice is required for a refund (excluding gift certificates); but please note a transaction fee will be deducted from the refund for each and every class seat registration that is canceled by the registrant/student based on the following scale:

Rescheduling a class still entails a cancellation and, therefore, a transaction fee will still be charged to customers.

There are no refunds or school credit issued when fewer than 48-hour notice from the class start date is given.

Students must attend the first class in a series. Students may make up missed classes in any Techniques series or Wine Essentials course without charge after attending the first lesson. Techniques make-up classes are available on a limited basis and must be arranged with ICE’s Guest Relations Manager. • Knife Skills 1

Good overview. Great instructor. Nice tone.
  • Knife Skills 1

It was a great class and I feel like I learned a lot. I feel like I can take these skills and use them to shorten the time I spend in the kitchen just prepping. The start of the class was a little long winded about ICE in general, information that is seemed geared towards taking other classes, but felt like a waste of time. The reason I am not giving it 5 stars is due to the lack of attention received during the class. The instructor did a decent job working around the room, but it felt like there was more feedback we could have received, especially when working with knifes. The assistant was not that great, she barely attempted to assist any of the students, but the instructor did say she was new, so maybe she just needs more guidance. Overall a great class that I would recommend to others, but there is some room for improvement.
  • Knife Skills 1

The only thing I didn’t like was the chef had a runny nose and kept cleaning it with the back of his hand.
  • Knife Skills 1

Great Class! Who knew I was doing so much wrong before. Would love to take more classes at ICE.
  • Knife Skills 1

This class was exactly what I signed up for: an understanding of the essential tools needed for prepping food safely and efficiently. We went over the differences in equipment, how to use each tool (knife, peeler, sharpener, etc), and practiced with a good range of foods. I feel as though I will be able to decrease my prep time for meals and spend more time cooking. Looking forward to taking their Knife Skills 2 class!
  • Knife Skills 1

The instructor was great but wish there was more repetition of intrustions.
