Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this weaving class:

Tapestry weaving is an ancient technique used by many cultures to create fabrics for clothes and furnitures, and wall hangings. In our tapestry weaving classes, students will learn the basics of tapestry weaving, how to plan and design a tapestry project, and traditional and contemporary tapestry techniques. You'll learn how to make your own frame loom, how to set it up and how to weave, while experiment with color, pattern and texture.

Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime!

Refund Policy

For all Adult & Youth cancellations, we are unable to refund processing fees collected at the time of registration by our third-party class registration software Active. Any credit or refunds will be for the cost of the class only.

For Adult Student Cancellations: Please double check your calendar before signing up for a class! Our small team works very hard throughout the year to schedule each class and coordinate with our students. If for some reason you need to cancel a class you’ve signed up for, please note the following policies:

At least one month before class: Students may receive full refund or credit to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, One Day Classes and 4-Week Classes, and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops.

Less than one month before class: Students may receive credit only to a future class at TAC, minus a $25 processing fee for Morning/Evening Series, Weekend Intensive, and 4-Week Classes, One Day Classes and a $10 processing fee for After Workshops. We are unable to offer refunds with less than one month notice.

All requests for refunds or class credits must be made in writing via email to [email protected]. In addition to the timing guidelines above, we of course appreciate as much notice as possible when making any adjustments to registrations.

Coursehorse students will need to contact Coursehorse directly about cancellations or refunds. TAC cancellation policy will apply.

All classes, workshops, special events, and gift certificates are non-transferable. No refunds will be given on Gift Certificates. Gift Certificates are valid for (1) one year from the date of purchase.

CLASS MAKE-UP POLICY

We are unable to pro-rate classes or refund students who cannot to make it to class. If you have to miss a class, you are responsible for catching up during Open Studio time.

In any event where a student wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

Alysa was terrific. She answered every question - over & over again. She was very clear in showing us techniques & in guiding us through weaving. I loved this class - the time flew by. Thank you. Thank you.

Great instructor, knowledgeable and encouraging. Class size was just right. The only thing I would change would be to have the class meet for two nights so that we could finish a whole, small tapestry. But I learned more than enough to begin weaving on my own and that’s exactly what I was hoping for from the course.

It was great! Small class, easy to understand, and now I have a super cool tapestry (and new skill!).

Learned a lot, was able to try out new techniques, ask questions, learn from peers in a relaxing setting. Just what I was hoping for.

The instructor "Ahna" seemed very irritated from the start of the class. She did not have time to decompress from her day job and seemed to take her anger and frustrations on the class. Her passive-aggressive attitude set an oppressive tone for this informal workshop. Questions and mild requests were met with adolescent eye rolls and the entire demonstration was confusing because she lacked the ability to properly articulate with language and her use of inappropriate material for tactile demonstrations. Again, many of these issues may have been resolved if the atmosphere of the class was "open" to some Q&A. The instructor literally felt like she phoned it in - she was not in the mood for this workshop after her stressed day at work. And spent the majority of the time on her phone texting. We all had a hard day at work. (I spent all day deposing at a Grand Jury hearing.) Sad to say, this workshop did not add to my curiosity for this new venue; Textile Art Center. The tone for the whole environment was oppressive, depressing and a bit exhausting. This workshop might be more suitable for teenagers who are used to the machinations of passive-aggressive mean girls but for busy professional adults wanting to learn a new skill set for de-stressing from a very strenuous work day - not recommended. Not fun. Terrible experience - I would not recommend this workshop to anyone with self-esteem. Very immature and unprofessional instructor!!

Question from Anna K.
How large is the project you make?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Anna! In the Tapestry After Workshop, students work on a small loom approximately 6 1/2" x 9 1/2". Tapestry weaving is a slow-process art, so this is a great size to get started learning the techniques. Students will be able to take home this loom to finish their tapestry at home. The Tapestry 4-week class uses a much larger loom since there is 4x the amount of class time. Hope this helps!

Question from anonymous
Do you leave with a finished product?
Answer from Susan T. Verified Student
I left with my smal loom and supplies (all included in class), but only got about 1/3 done. Apparently only 1 person has ever finished the whole thing in class, because she already knew how and knew what she wanted to produce, but I could easily finish the project at home.
