This is an absolutely wonderful class for any beginner and well worth the money. Emily, our instructor, has A LOT of experience and was kind and patient while teaching us. She was very thorough in her demonstrations. She was always ready and willing to answer questions, and trust me, I had A LOT! I loved that the class was small, just 5 people, so it was great for individualized learning. The class was so much fun, there was ample time for breaks and there was a lot of support when required. Highly recommend and again, worth the money.

The first part of the class was an intro to how to use the sewing machine. The instructor was patient and showed the details. The second part was to make our own skirts. The instructor started 30 minutes late (because a student was having lunch) and we were not able to finish the skirts. That's just frustrating and I wish the class was better organized and timed. The instructor was very patient and answered the questions. We just didn't have enough time. I was surprised that she didn't say or do anything to speed up a little bit.

Took the group Sewing 101 Bootcamp with TIMOTHY on a Sunday at the Sewing Center on W 38th from 12-8pm. The class was very enjoyable, you basically get an overview of how the machine works, how to prepare you machine to sew. Then you do your first full project with a tote bag from start to finish. We took lunch after completing the first project and after returning we did our second project--either a skirt (fitted) or pants (pajama-y/elastic ones). The second project introduces you to how to read a commercial pattern and how to prepare/pin/cut the fabric for your garment. You get ongoing demos of the techniques and then you are left to your own project, where your instructor can help you when you are stuck. Timothy was very patient. Hours went by so quickly, you just wish you had more time. We were all able to complete our garments but we had to speed a few things up--we only touched on alterations although it felt like we were supposed to be able to go a little more in-depth and hands-on on that portion. However I came out feeling much more confident about my own projects and starting my own garments, so that's the point. I would certainly look into additional courses offered by the same place.

The instruction started out great, but there may not have been enough time to finish both projects well. This was a long day with a lot of new information and I had to repeatedly ask for help or for the instructors to repeat. I felt like I was irritating and that I was expected to understand or remember more. It was very overwhelming but the first half of the class taught me a lot. Maybe I would break this boot camp into two weeks or just one project.
