Learn to Sew Knits: Leggings Pattern

Learn to sew stretchy knit fabrics and make the perfect pair of leggings in this class.

Build your sewing skills. Join us for this one-day workshop and learn to sew stretchy knit fabrics. It will open up a world of possibilities for making your own stretchy garments, from leggings to tunics to dresses.

You’ll learn the basics of sewing knits, while also learning how to use a commercial pattern as you create a pair of custom leggings that are guaranteed to fit your bod like a glove.

In this one-day class you’ll learn:

• Basics of sewing from a commercial pattern
• How to lay out and cut your fabric, with instruction specific to working with stretchy knit fabrics
• How to sew stretch knit fabrics on a standard sewing machine (not a serger)

Basic sewing experience is required for this class. You must be comfortable working on a sewing machine. If you are a beginner, our Sewing 101 class (or equivalent) is a pre-requisite for this class. 

Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
Each student must bring the following to class:

• 2 yards stretchy knit fabric (or 2 1/2 yards if you plan to make a size XXL; see sizing info here) — selection of knits at Mood Fabrics is recommended
• 1 1/2 yards 1″ elastic for waistband
• All-purpose thread to match your fabric

Registration fee only includes leggings pattern, all necessary sewing tools and use of our BERNINA sewing machines. 

We will be sewing from Simplicity 1256 for this class. Each student will receive a pattern in class. 

You’ll leave class with a finished pair of leggings that you can make again and again in the future, plus the knowledge to tackle more stretchy garments.
