Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this quilting class:

Learn modern quilting techniques! This one-day workshop will cover all the basics of assembling, machine-quilting, and finishing a small quilt.

In one five-hour session, you'll learn:

  • Understanding quilting materials, including batting and binding.
  • How to assemble a "quilt sandwich" and baste or prep it for quilting
  • How to quilt on a standard home sewing machine using a walking foot
  • How to attach the quilt binding by machine, to finish the edges of your quilt
In class, you will start and finish a 36" square quilt with two different fabrics on the front and back. The finished project makes an ideal baby quilt, lap quilt, or wall hanging. You'll also leave with the know-how to tackle more quilting projects on your own!

Note: This class does not cover patchwork quilting. We will be working with solid pieces of fabric, not pieced patchwork.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This is an easy/intermediate class -- you do not need advanced sewing skills, but you must have basic machine sewing knowledge. Our Sewing 101 or equivalent is a prerequisite to this class. Unfortunately, we cannot accept students for this class who have never sewn on a machine.

Price does not include fabric and other necessary materials, which will be available for purchase during class at a 10% discount to workshop attendees.

Refund Policy

We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.

  • If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.

In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.

I loved this class so much! I was very nervous - I had been trying to teach myself to sew...with mixed results. The instructor was super clear and I walked away with a beautiful quilt! I can't believe it.

Great class! Very manageable quilting project for beginners. There were only four of us in the class and I think that is the perfect size since Giuseppe was able to give everyone individual attention w/o others having to wait around. Even so, the class went a bit over, and everyone left with just having to stitch the undersides of their bindings, but a very simple final step to complete at home. It was Giuseppe's first time teaching the class and he did a great job. Thanks, Giuseppe! The shop itself is meticulously curated: small but nice selection of (mostly) Kona cottons and Cotton and Steel fabrics for the project. The fabric, batting, binding and thread cost everyone around $40. Thanks, Brooklyn Craft Company!
