What you'll learn in this sculpture class:

In this class you will sculpt a larger than life size mouth and nose in water based clay. Observing plaster casts of facial features at a larger than life size will help you to better understand and then sculpt the subtle beauty of each form. The focus will be on sculpting a large scale mouth and nose (separately). We will either work from a copy of Michelangelo’s David features or something similar.

This is a great class if you have never sculpted before and would like to gain some confidence and technical skills before attempting to sculpt a portrait. There will be an opportunity to either dry and fire your clay sculptures at a local ceramic studio or you can take a mold making class at Compleat Sculptor.

Supply List:

  • Water based kiln fire clay (25 lbs.)
  • Clay modeling tools.
  • Bring what you have and I will have other tools available during the first class for you to try out. You may purchase more tools at the The Compleat Sculptor after the first session.
  • Plastic wrap to or dry cleaning bag to cover your sculpture and keep the clay from drying out.
