What you'll learn in this screen printing class:

Our unique workshops allow students to submit their own graphic art design by email 2 days prior to the workshop. We make a silk screen from their artwork. They use it to learn and print on fabrics at the workshop. Students can bring up to 5 fabric items to print on.

We provide a selection of inks, squeegees and other materials to print free - included in the cost of the workshop.

At the conclusion students take possession of their screen, the items they printed on and a Certificate of Completion.

Each student gets a silkscreen made from their own design that they keep and is reusable.

Question from Woojin A.
Would I be allowed to bring a couple of more bags/t-shirts of my own to print? Also, when printing, are we using one color or allowed to use more than one color?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Woojin! Yes, students can bring a couple of bags/shirts extra and print on them. Recommended! Only the school ask it just be a few or in this case a couple of each.
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
The screen that the school makes from a student's graphic design (they provide in advance) is used for printing one color during the workshop. The students get to keep the screen so on their own can use it later with any color ink they desire. If the student would like to print a few prints with a different color - wash screen - re-use with a new color, in this instance we will do what we can to accommodate the student i.e.

Question from Timothy C.
Could one potentially bring like a photocopy of a 4x6 photograph and count on being able to make prints it from this lesson?
Answer from anonymous
Great question. We generally accept art that is line art, hard black on a white background. Our thermal screens, react to shading and half tones as full black and that alters the photo, in unpredictable ways. Shading and half tones impact the screen and reverse polorization where dark and light reverse. This sounds like a good test for us to do here at Super Silk Screen with different photos, video and post results. Thank you for the question! Ian, Super Silk Screen

Question from Daniela T.
How many prints do we need to bring to class? Do the images have to be printed a specific/ special way?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! If you have a design, bring it as a regular black and white photocopy with the image not more than 6inches x 6inches. This means the graphic is one color - black on white regular copy paper. If attendees do not bring or have a graphics right now, the school have special carbon pen markers here that students can use onsite to create designs and then make screens from them and print on fabric. Hope this helps!

Question from Daniela T.
Are all materials included with the cost of the class displayed here or students are required to bring there own materials?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Daniela! Students are asked to dress casually. Students will receive a pamphlet covering basic fabric printing techniques and a list of many NYC arts suppliers. Students will also have a choice of printing a cotton T-shirt or bag at the workshop that they take home - the materials are provided at the workshop and included in the course fee.

Ian was great! Loved learning from him and getting to talk to him about his business/life. He was a great teacher and very laid back which made me and my wife feel so comfortable. He answered all of our questions and made us feel right at home! I feel confident that I could now do this on my own which I feel is the point of taking a class, it gives you knowledge and confidence to move forward with skills and confidence to do it on your own! Thank You Ian!

This fabric printing class was very enjoyable, I highly recommend learning from Ian at his studio. You get the gratification of printing with your own screen on your own shirts right away which feels empowering, and it’s fun too!
