Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this pottery wheel class:

Participants will learn techniques for wheel thrown pottery. Starting with inspiration from the Newark Museum’s ceramic collections, participants will create functional and decorative objects using throwing methods to stretch and bend clay as it spins on a potter’s wheel. The course will cover the basics of working with clay and allow participants to trim, embellish, and glaze their works.

Registration includes instruction, use of studio equipment and tools, and 25 pounds of clay along with glaze and kiln firings. Additional clay, (glaze and kiln firings included) is available to purchase for $2 per pound.

Courses will run as scheduled only if minimum enrollment is met. If not, all registered participants will be notified within one week of first class and registration fees will be refunded.

Refund Policy

  • Cancellations made at least 2 business days in advance of the class will be honored with a refund less 5% cancellation fee.
  • Students who cancel less than 2 business days prior to the start time of the class will receive a credit towards a future class.
In the event that an instructor or the school needs to cancel at the last minute, students will receive a refund less a 5% non-refundable registration fee.

Can classes be made up if I couldn't make a class? Or have access to open studio times?

Classes can be made up on a case-by-case basis or if the Museum cancels a class due to weather, etc. Open studio time is available after completion of an introductory course. Thanks for asking!
