If you’re brand new to ceramics and want to try a class in a fun and social environment, here’s the best way to start!

This class is the perfect way to find out how you like getting your hands dirty while learning about the exciting world of clay. You’ll get an introduction to the basics of handbuilding and wheel throwing in a single, accessibly-priced class. Please note that work will not be fired.

Important Notes: 
  • With 25 electric potters’ wheels, a gas reduction kiln and three electric kilns, 92Y’s Ceramics Center is one of the best equipped in NYC. During the fall and spring semesters students have the opportunity to take classes using stoneware. In the summer, porcelain is the material of choice. 
  • All work is glaze-fired to cone 10. Clay is included in the cost of tuition (unless you use bagged clay, which may be purchased for $20 per 25-pound bag). 
  • Our firing charge is 5c per cubic inch for two firings for all work made in classes and workshops. 
  • Students must supply their own tools, which may be purchased from 92Y.

Refund Policy
Refund Policies:
92nd Street Y is not responsible for providing makeup classes or issuing refunds for programs missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond our control.
There are no refunds for outings, classes or workshops that meet fewer than three times per semester.
If you are unable to attend, you may contact Customer Service prior to the first date for a receipt that enables you to claim your contribution as a tax-deductible gift.
Unless otherwise noted in program description, the following schedule applies to programs which meet three times or more per semester:
  • To receive a 100% refund, written request must be received 2 weeks prior to the first session.
  • To receive a 75% refund, written request must be received at least one day prior to the first session.
  • To receive a 50% refund, written request must be received at least one day prior to the second session.
  • After that, refunds cannot be granted.
All refund requests must be submitted in writing to Customer Service. Refunds are computed from the date written notice is received.
To receive a refund, you must enclose the original of your confirmation letter.
Please allow three to four weeks for processing of your refund request. Processing fees, membership fees, auditions fees and class or exercise cards are not refundable. No cash refunds.

Do i have to bring my own supplies/buy my own supplies for the intro course?

Hey, I just signed up. Will we be able to fire and take pieces home (if we pay more?)

Hi there! Work will not be fired. Items need to be fired to take home as they fall apart if they aren't. Firing charge is five cents per cubic inch for two firings for all work made in classes and workshops. I hope this helps!
