One of the best things about learning photography is using your new skills to capture and document the lives of the people close to you. From a typical day at home to backyard parties to reunions and events, opportunities abound to use your camera to preserve life’s small and large moments. In this class, we'll explore the skills and insights you need to take expressive candid photos that catch the moment. Learn Thomas' repertoire of tips, tricks and strategies that ensure success in capturing moments and scenes, big and small, in a meaningful way.
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
Part 1:
We'll discuss the meaning of ‘candid photography’, what it captures that posed photographs cannot, and why is that valuable? We'll delve into equipment and gear, camera settings, including flash and shutter speed, how to hold your camera/how to approach without tainting the ‘candid’ moment, how to approach family vs strangers, how to draw boundaries, the ethics of taking a photo and more.
Assignments:
At the end of Part 1, you'll get exercises to complete during the week between sessions to practice what you have learned. Prior to Part 2, you’ll receive instructions to send a few of your images to Thomas.
Part 2:
We'll review some of the photos you took during the week and examine how to edit your photos to communicate what you envisioned when you took the picture.
Still have questions? Ask the community.
As we continue to stay on top of the latest science and directives around Covid 19, we're rescheduling classes, pending status updates.
Because we're committed to providing you with maximum flexibility in these uncertain times, if you register for a class that we must later reschedule and you're unable to attend, you will be welcome to request either a credit towards a future class or a refund. We're all in this together.
Stay safe.
