What you'll learn in this photography class:

Join Alexandra Shytsman – recipe developer, food writer and photographer – for an immersion in all things food styling and photography. In this 4-hour workshop, Alex will provide beginner food bloggers and influencers with a starter kit for capturing food for digital media. We will cover the essential concepts of using a DSLR camera, lighting, equipment, composition, food and prop styling, and how to develop your own visual style.

Whether you’re currently shooting on a smartphone or professional camera, for your blog, cookbook or Instagram account, this class will give you the tools and inspiration to create drool-worthy images. The class is ideal for bloggers, private chefs, health coaches, aspiring food photographers, and future Instagram stars.

Prior to the workshop, you will receive a questionnaire regarding your present food photography experience and goals for this class. You will also be able to submit your own food images to be discussed in class; participation is optional but encouraged as the class is a supportive, no-judgement environment where you can get valuable custom feedback on your skills.

We will have a 15-minute break halfway through the workshop. Coffee/tea and a light snack will be served. You are welcome to pack a lunch to bring with you and enjoy during the break.
School Notes: NGI is open weekdays 8:30 a.m.-10 p.m. After 5:00 p.m. and on weekends, you must enter 200# onto the keypad just right of the glass doors to be buzzed into the building. Please take the elevator to the 2nd floor and check in at the front desk.

This was a great course for beginners or entry-level food photographers. I liked that the class incorporated technical camera details with food styling. I do wish we could have practiced with our own cameras and workshopped a bit of what we learned. It would have been better to have a full day.

This class was a great overview of food photography best practices. I went in with very little experience and left excited to get started taking my own photos.
