Still Life Painting

Refine the painting techniques of the masters in your own still life painting. This course will cover essential techniques that will inform all of your future paintings on any subject. Participants will learn how to render such textures as metal, glass, cloth, paper and fur. Demonstrations and discussions will cover the stages to developing a painting: composition, design and color theory. The beginner will learn fundamental principles such as how to mix colors and render form. Learn to transform objects with the beauty of oil paint.<  

Q&A

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one? 
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are materials provided and included in the cost of the class?

• 11”x14” or 14”x18 inch canvas or panel is a nice size to work at

• Synthetic brushes (brights) sizes 2, 4, 6
• 2 small, round synthetic brushes
• A big synthetic square brush (about 2 inches wide)
• Stiff bristle brushes (flats or brights) in a variety of sizes (for example 2, 4, 6, 8)
