What you'll learn in this encaustic class:

This 3 hour workshop is an overview of Encaustic painting. Participants will learn the fundamentals of working in this medium and will have a chance to explore multiple techniques. We will learn how to melt, mix, and apply the wax to create smooth and textured surfaces as well as how to incise the wax to create intricate drawings.

Collage and photocopy transfers are additional ways to play with this medium. We will discuss how to set up your own space for painting with encaustic including ventilation, safety, and tools. Through demonstration, discussion and hands-on exploration, students will come away with an encaustic painting and will be able to continue on their own.

Important Thing to Note:
  • A small class size insures that everyone gets personal attention.
  • Please wear old clothes and shoes, or bring an apron.

This class was a great introduction to encaustic paintings for someone who knows very little about the topic. The class is spit into instructional and hands on portions (the whole evening went by quickly!). Participants leave with one or two panels, depending on how much time you want to spend exploring different methods. The instructor was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I would recommend this class to anyone.

This was a great intro to encaustic by a talented lady. She gave us a great basic demo and then time to paint and explore.
