Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this metal working class:

Yes, you have been waiting for it. Now is your chance to channel your inner flashdancer. We are pleased to partner with the fabulous Lorie Honor of Honor Wines to offer this unusual pairing.

This four-week workshop will focus on steel MIG welding, but students will get an overview of a variety of metal fabrication tools, materials, and techniques including the bandsaw and sander.

By the end of the class, you will have a good grasp of the welding process and you will make your very own wine rack or small project of your choosing.

PREREQUISITES:

Must be 21 and over to participate. This program is geared towards women but is open to anyone. No welding experience necessary. Please wear hair tied back, closed-toe boots, jeans, and long-sleeved shirts. Your boots and clothing will get dirty and burned by small sparks so dress for safety, not for glamour.

MATERIALS:

Your materials fee pays for steel and wine. We provide safety protection including welding masks, goggles, leather jackets, and gloves.

Refund Policy

We reserve the right to cancel the class if we do not have the minimum amount of students. If we cancel, we will refund you in full and notify you.

You may cancel and get a full refund up to three days before the class. After that, refunds are contingent on us being able to fill your seat. Under no circumstances do we offer refunds to individuals who cancel on the same day. This ruins the party for everyone.

Scott and Emily were patient and awesome teachers, even despite my initial anxieties about burning my hands off, suffering inadvertent retinal damage, etc. Nothing to worry about here because they walk you through every step of the process beforehand and while you're working. They focused on technique, which I wasn't expecting in a course for first time welders, and we were encouraged to get creative with our projects. I'll definitely be back again for another class!

I had so much fun in this class. The instructor, Mindy, was very patient, clear and friendly. The owner of the space was a blast to converse with. The other students were interesting and fun to work with. And the welding was so much fun. I loved the whole space. Even the wine was good. I am coming back! I really couldn't recommend it any more strongly. It was really a worthwhile experience.

Question from Anais G.
Hi! Are there preset designs we choose from or do students get to create their own designs? Thanks!
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Anais! The students get to make their own design. The recommended project is a wine rack, however, students are encouraged to make whatever small project they choose, for example, a sculpture, the book ends, small garden terrace, etc.. Throughout the course, the final project is continually discussed and researched. Hope this helps.

Question from Chas
Why are men excluded from this class? Is there a comparable Men Only class?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
HI Chas! This workshop is not exclusionary of men, but it is geared towards a friendly learning environment for women. However, they do offer Mig Welding, Tig Welding, and Stick Welding workshops that are open to everyone and cover the same topics, the only difference is that there are no wine tastings after those workshops. Hope this helps.

Hi there! As of now, the class is only scheduled on Mar 7. We really can't say when will it be offered again. The school is the one giving us the schedule and there's no update on that as of yet.
