Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this welding class:

Have you ever wondered what it is like to light a torch, set a flame, run a bead? In this session you will learn to braze. You will create a small unique sculpture to take home.It can be used to display jewelry, or hold a candle. The options are endless.

We will discuss the many advantages of gas welding when setting up a shop, creating furniture, art, fabrication. etc.

What makes this Course unique is that it is taught by an artist who has experience teaching both sculptors and welders. She is a Part-time Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching Metal Fabrication. This class is an empowering experience for both beginners as well as people who have experienced welding in the past. The class is also unique because it will be "limited to 2 people"  The Studio has a wall of open windows for excellent ventilation.

WHAT TO WEAR:  Wear closed toe leather or suede shoes and cotton socks. Do not wear clothes you care about. Cotton jeans are best. Bring a long sleeved sweat shirt and wear a  long sleeved cotton shirt. Welding gear and glovesare supplied and included with session. There is no fee for metal.

She is patient, methodical and has a great sense of time and knows how to accomplish the goals of the class. What a great experience! Small class sizes make a huge difference and we were able to learn and practice a lot quickly. Not only did we practice brazing multiple ways we got do do true steel welding. It’s good to learn from someone with decades of experience as a welder and a teacher.

I'm interested in this class, but I would like to know, what is a "tea light candle table?'
Answer from Michelle G. Verified Educator
Here are some examples: http://prntscr.com/qm9y10, http://prntscr.com/qm9ycw. In class, people choose metal to create a small sculpture. If you would like to make it functional, you then braze a small sheet on top for a candle. Each candle stand is unique, as people have a choice of metal to use.
