Forge a sword any samurai or knight would want to carry. This class doesn’t just test your endurance in forging out a blade, but attention to detail is crucial as you work on your guard, pommel, and handle.

Previous knifemaking experience required.

16 years and older only.

Important Notes:

  • Vaccination is REQUIRED for all classes. There are no exceptions to this.
  • You must print and sign this waiver form, one per participant, prior to the class

What to wear and bring:

  • You MUST wear a mask to and from the shop - ideally a respirator. As soon as you arrive please sanitize or wash your hands - we will then review other safety protocols in person. If you do not feel well play it safe and stay home!
  • Only wear natural fiber clothing, no synthetics or blends. Jeans and leather shoes are a requirement. I recommend bringing a T-shirt and a long sleeve shirt. Make sure your pant cuffs go over the tops of your shoes, and there are no holes in any of your clothing.
  • Wear only clothing that you can part with, for it may be destroyed. You will not get to forge if you do not follow these rules.
  • If you have your own respirator please bring it, otherwise you will be supplied with one (that you will be responsible for bringing to and from class).
  • When transporting knives please use a knife roll/case, or tightly wrap it in a towel, and make sure to put a small luggage lock on your bag.

  • 3 business days notice of class absence is required. A $75 fee is applied per each day missed.

Question from Anonymous
Is the $1305 price for just one class or is it for the full set of classes in which you finish the sword?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! The class includes all the time necessary to finish the project. Swords typically take 10 to 13 class sessions, but are worth the time to get it perfect. Hope this helps!

What material do you make the sword out of? Can it cut through fruit?
Answer from Seth Q. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Swords are typically 80CrV2 or 5160 high carbon steel. Depending on the type of curved sword you would like to make, it will be capable of going through 10 water bottles with ease - fruit will be like butter.
