What you'll learn in this stained glass class:

Learn the Timeless Art of Stained Glass

Stained Glass is one of the most unchanged crafts in the world. The process and techniques involved are centuries old, but the piece you design and build in this workshop will be one-of-a-kind and forever a monument to your creative super powers!

This workshop is designed for beginners but will be enjoyable to those with previous stained glass experience, especially due to the latitude you’re allowed in designing your piece. This workshop is perfect for anyone who desires to dabble in small form sculpture, glass, color, and line design.

During this workshop, our guides will introduce you to the world of stained glass, teach you the fundamentals of designing stained glass art, and all the skills involved in the Tiffany technique to create your design. This will include pro tips for designing your piece, help with selecting and shaping each of its elements, and finally soldering it all together. You’ll leave this workshop with a beautiful one-of-a-kind stained glass work of art, designed and built by YOU!

We’ll have plenty of pictures and templates available to help you create your design in the workshop but feel free to bring some design ideas/sketches with you and our guides will help you bring them to life.

  • What You’ll Be Making: A beautiful piece of stained glass art.
  • What You’ll Be Doing: Creating your own custom design, cutting and shaping glass, and soldering the pieces together to create the finished product.
  • Skill Level: Beginner — no previous experience is required.

This was a really fun class! It was a great "quick" course to learn how to make fun stained glass art. Important things I wish I knew prior to the class: - This class allows you to make artwork that is sized 5.5"x8.5" or smaller - The glass artwork/shapes must be a total of 8 pieces or less (this is important due to time restraints) - Don't worry if you didn't create a design, they have lots of templates to choose from I picked a small shaped from the template pile that was roughly 4x5 inches, 8 pieces total. Keep in mind there are a lot of steps involved per glass piece you cut out. Some people in the class made larger pieces using the full 5.5"x8.5" size limit, and they struggled to finish or had to go over the class time. (There are usually classes scheduled back to back, so it's important to finish within the 4 hours) The class works together through each step, so they announce a lot of time-management reminder "we have 15-20 mins before the next step", so that might add to the stress a little if you are running behind (instructors will also help you). It might be beneficial to add to the class bio "8-8:30am choose design, 8:30-9:00 cut out glass design, 9-9:30 sand glass piece, etc". Rather than rushing the students who are not aware there is a strict schedule planned, those who signed up for the class get a rough idea of how timing works and know what to expect. Overall, I had a great learning experienced and walked away with a fun creation! I would definitely re-visit to try another class, as well as strongly recommend the class to friends. Just keep in mind, a smaller design will probably benefit you in this class because you definitely lose track of time when you are looking at options for glass colors and designs. :)

I learned this beautiful process of making stained glass art. I was vacationing from Maryland for my 10th wedding anniversary and decided to take this course. I am an artist but I had never done stained glass. It was well worth the money and I will be taking courses in my area. Thanks Jess and Mary!

I had a very negative experience in this class. Perhaps I should have done more research before the class as I had absolutely no idea how complicated the process would be. Also expected much more guidance and explanation. There were too many people in the class and it should have been divided into two classes to give us some more understanding of what kind of designs would be possible in the medium. We could have done one whole class learning how to come up with appropriate designs and how to cut the glass and use the tools instead of trying to complete a finished product in the allotted time. This class did not take into account different learning styles and was too difficult to be considered Stained Glass 101. I ended up so depressed I left halfway through. I’ve taken ceramics classes, a block printing workshop, and learned how to solder, so didn’t expect to have such a frustrating experience with this medium. If this were a true beginners class it should have been much more simplified instead of racing us through each process. Telling us beforehand that our design should be as big as a hand and could have eight pieces was also misleading for absolute novices. We could have been better prepared by being told that the process was more like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. This would have been a more accurate way to prepare us beforehand. To say I was disappointed is an understatement.

I enjoyed the stain glass work of art class. The amount of people in the class made me feel welcome. There were four other people in the class. So I received good one on one help. The teacher was kind & patient with me. Working with my hands to bring a work of art to life was great. I would take this class again. The studio was neat, clean, & arranged well. Job well done Craftsman.

Very basic knowledge of making stained glass work, they only taught you how to do it, not how to do it well. More than 5 people attended.

Great intro class! I'm a Graphic Designer and try to take a lot of different 'hands-on' classes to learn new hobbies and get away from the computer screen. Kelsie was a great instructor, taught us a ton in the amount of time we had, and answered all the questions I threw at her (which was probably a lot). I had such a great experience that I ended up buying my own equipment to continue practicing at home. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in learning the process of Stained Glass and glass as a medium.

I took this class with my cousin and it was really fun, the studio had a chill vibe. The class was small enough that you can freely talk to the instructor. We actually made a whole piece of art which was cool and all the equipment and all the necessary tools were provided. We had a super chill instructor who was helpful and also not super strict about little things so we had a certain amount of artistic and technical leeway. I'm actually planning on going back for some other classes at the studio because I really liked the vibe and the people.

The stained glass workshop for beginners was EXCELLENT!. The hands on learning experience revealed the artistry, creativity, and incredible skill associated with this art form. Kelsie was a superb teacher knowing when to pull the group together for a demonstration lesson, when to leave the group time for independent work, and when to offer her guidance in a time of need/advice. Her pleasant, encouraging, and kind demeanor is an essential characteristic for others to feel welcomed and vulnerable in a new learning experience. Her interactions were truly genuine.

This was a fantastic class that did a great job breaking the stained glass process into very manageable steps. The teacher was very approachable, and did a great job helping with our initial designs. I was pretty intimidated going into it, but by the end, I wished I had gone with a more complicated design because it was much easier than I thought. I went with my wife and parents and we had a great time, walking away with finished pieces to be proud of.
