Molten glass is like honey; it drips, stretches, and expands in unexpected ways. Students will learn the fundamentals of glassblowing and how to shape this unique material as it transforms from a molten, liquid blob to a unique final form. With safety talks, demonstrations, and practice, camp will cover proper tool use and how to work in teams to create finished works of art. Students will gain confidence working in a professional studio as they create colorful designs progressing from solid forms to hollow objects.
What to Expect: Camp runs Monday-Friday, and class size is limited to 9 students. Students will work together and learn to manipulate molten glass (2,000 degrees). Safety, color application, and tools will all be covered in a fun and exciting environment with lots of movement, and plenty of practice time and demonstrations. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Students will break at midday for lunch. On the final day, family and friends are invited to a showing of students' experiments and finished work.
Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to all rising and current high school students.
