Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this glass blowing class:

This weekend course provides an introduction to flameworking with borosilicate glass. Students will learn to create small objects, apply color, and explore the worlds of solid sculptural forms. Through a mixture of technical exercises and creative projects, students will delve into the potential of this material. The goal of the course is for students to gain confidence in their ability and be able to create well-crafted objects.

What to Expect: A bit like rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time, flameworking makes use of dexterity and hand eye coordination. We will be using both hands sometimes turning in tandem together and at other times independently. Come prepared for a challenge with some successes and failures. This weekend workshop will consist of demonstrations followed by practice time for each exercise. We will be working with an open flame as well as learning to adjust the torch to produce different flames.

Flameworking requires a little practice at heat control with the torch to create successful pieces. After demonstrations, expect to make some successful objects in this class, and a couple failures, while gaining confidence and skill in the studio.

Eligibility: No previous experience required. Open to ages 12 and up.

Pick-up: The glass needs to cool down overnight, so the students will have to return to the school once notified to pick up their work.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at our school. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.
