Gather round this August to join Kate Hush for her first (in person) course at UrbanGlass! The time has come to Face Forward. In this 5 evening neon intensive she will guide you through the process of designing, sculpting, electrifying, and then displaying the touchstones of vision and sound - the eyes, and the mouth. Will your lips glow blue or eyes beam red? The choice is yours to make in this neon adventure. Because who wouldn’t want to place the windows to the soul right on their bedroom wall?
What to Expect: This course will consist of 35% lecture, demo, and, instruction which will be made up of the following: talking about the basics of neon fabrication and setting proper expectations for newcomers, going over making a feasible design and pattern, showing how the bending of the glass works, focusing mainly on the curves and angles that make up these facial features, and then going over installation and wiring so students can hang their pieces after the course ends.
The other 65% will be all hands on work with the students as they make their pieces. The teaching team will go around to each student individually and assist them in creating their units, making sure not to completely take over the bending process, but instead to course correct when needed. Students should expect to walk away with knowledge on designing and installing pieces, as well as the basics of bending -particularly curves and angles. In the end beginner students will walk away with either a pair of lips or eyes, while more advanced students may be able to complete an entire face.
Pick-up: It is possible processing will take additional time, so students will have to return to UrbanGlass once notified to pick up their work.
