What you'll learn in this glass blowing class:

Explore enamel in this 8 session class through the ancient techniques of cloisonné and champlevé before advancing into the perilous medieval invention of plique-à-jour. We will bend, attach, and wet-pack cloisons to produce crisp patterns and imagery in vitreous enamel. Learn how to selectively place flush enamel elements into a field of metal and create ethereal transparent enamels that cling to thin networks of metal, similar to miniature stained glass windows. We will learn to incorporate these processes within designs that accommodate for the fragility of glass, as well as how to properly choose and prepare materials. We will discuss the many variations and approaches relating to these techniques while enforcing good enameling habits in general.

This course is ideal for students with basic enameling knowledge but open to focused students without prior enameling experience.
