What you'll learn in this glass blowing class:

Glass Bubbles and Bulbs come in all shapes and sizes. In this class we’ll explore the intersection of blown glass and lighting while teaching students all the necessary steps to realize their own lighting concept.

Together with experienced glass blowers and lighting designers, students will learn the entire design process taking their ideas from the drawing board to glass fabrication to hardware selection and wiring. As we do this, we’ll also discuss the various possibilities and boundaries when combining custom lighting with blown glass forms.

Projects may take the form of ceiling mount, wall mount, table or floor lights, and will use incandescent sockets. Students will also learn the basics of safety, wiring and working with lighting components.

Note: Glass and lighting fabrication experience is not required but students should come prepared with a lighting design on the first day (keeping the glass component under 10” in diameter) and be ready to observe the process of interacting with the fabricators.
