What you'll learn in this portrait drawing class:

Students will work from a live model to create well-structured portrait and figure paintings with convincing colors and features. Participants will create two paintings throughout the semester, incorporating a variety of techniques such as comparative measuring, big form modeling, and glazing methods that are all important aspects of developing a successful portrait. Students will learn how to achieve a better likeness as well as how to paint convincing flesh tones and render textures like cloth and hair.

Required Materials:

CANVAS OR PANEL

14”x18” or 16”x 20” inch canvas or panel is a nice size to work at

Titanium White
Lemon Yellow
Cadmium Yellow Deep
Cadmium Orange
Cadmium Red Light
Permanent Alizarin Crimson
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Sienna or Transparent Red Oxide
Burnt Umber
Viridian Green
Cerulean Blue or Cobalt Blue Teal
Ultramarine Blue
Mars Black

BRUSHES

Synthetic brushes (brights) sizes 2, 4, 6
2 small, round synthetic brushes
A big synthetic square brush (about 2 inches wide)
Stiff bristle brushes (flats or brights) in a variety of sizes (for example 2, 4, 6, 8)
1” and ½” grainer brushes

MAKE-UP POLICY
Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.
