What you'll learn in this anatomy drawing class:

Ever wonder how those beautiful Michelangelo sketches are made? It's not genius or talent, but specific techniques and skills.

This class will start with some simple warm ups to get that hand-eye coordination flowing and then delve closely into human anatomy to work towards a very realistic figure.

We'll be drawing from Michelangelo's beautiful sketches and the wonderful Andreas Vesalius' anatomical drawings. You'll get acquainted with the muscles that give Michelangelo's models those defined figures and we'll even break down the skeleton.

In the process a range of practical tools will be given that you can take away and work with on, on your own to try drawing from life, but rest assured, you'll walk out with one beautiful recreation.

You can come to this class fresh or with drawing experience.

Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? Yes, all the supplies are provided, no need to bring anything.

You may bring your own favorite Michelangelo drawing or pick from a few particularly elegant ones.

Still have questions? Ask the community.

If you're looking for a refund, you need to back out of the class a week before it starts. We know it's draconian, but since we're not charging a million bucks, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings. Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around your friends and see if anyone would take your spot, then just get money from them! We also can't switch you between class sessions or give any sort of refund after the class happens.

I enjoyed the small class size and the range of activities (1 minute drawings, 2 minute drawings, 3 minute drawings, 5 minute drawings, and 1 hour drawing). I felt comfortable in the group as someone who just likes to draw for fun but does not have formal instruction in art.

Lovely instructor who allow you to find the technique that works for YOU. Lots of time to practice and affirming feedback.

This class is excellent for all levels. The instructor Elysa has a very gentle approach. If you are paying attention you will realize that she is providing a lot of information on drawing instruction. She is very encouraging... wherever you are in your drawing level. The anatomy portion of this class is coming from the subject matter (Michelangelo's figure drawings), not from naming the muscles. I feel the class should therefore be titled differently. Even so, you will get a lot of drawing practice, starting from shorter timed (gesture) drawings to the longest drawing. The space (Brooklyn Brainery) is clean and light-filled. All materials are provided. You really do not need to bring anything with you.

It was a wonderful class. Time flew by so quickly.

I've taken another introduction to charcoal class taught by the same teacher and they were both equally amazing. This class was slightly more challenging since it involved more anatomy and less figurative drawing. Even as a practicing artist, I leaned a lot and took away a lot from the class. This class, and teacher, come highly recommend. Even as a bigger or someone who's well versed in the arts, you'll never feel excluded and always leave with at least one amazing new piece.
