What you'll learn in this drawing class:

Ever wonder how those beautiful Michelangelo sketches are made? It's not genius or talent, but can be broken down into clear technique and skills. Pick out your favorite Michelangelo (or Leonardo if you prefer the anatomy) sketch and we can reproduce it together in this class.

We'll start with some simple warm ups to get that hand-eye coordination flowing, get the basics of distance and scale down, and then we'll bust out with those subtle tones and supple lines to recreate that Renaissance style.

I'll give you a range of techniques that you can take away and work with on your own to try drawing from life, but rest assured, you'll walk out with one beautiful recreation. Bring your own favorite Michelangelo drawing or pick from a few particularly elegant ones.

This class is aimed at beginners and those with little drawing experience, though all are welcome. You can also check out the anatomy-focused session.

Please Note: All supplies are provided. No need to bring anything.

Refund Policy
If you're looking for a refund or class credit, you need to back out of the class a full week before it starts. (No exceptions!) We know it's draconian, but since we aren't charging an arm and a leg and have to buy all our materials in advance, it's kinda hard to deal with last-minute bailings.

We also can't transfer registrations to a future session of the class. Sorry!

Instead of dropping out if you have a schedule conflict, a better idea is to ask around and see if any of your friends want the spot. We can't give you a refund less than a week out, even if there's a wait list for the class.

Regarding bad weather, we generally only cancel classes if the subway system stops running. If traveling during snowstorms might be an issue for you, please take this into account before registering for a class.

Had a few years of experience but hadn't used charcoal or sketched in over a decade. That said, was a really nice course with a good pace and no pressure to slowly figure everything out again. Instructor was friendly, informative, and provided constructive individual feedback. Would recommend

Encouraging instructor and lots of chances to explore which drawing technique works better for you personally (intuitive vs measured, or a combination). Lots of affirming feedback and gentle suggestions for improvements. I loved it! Super fun!
