What you'll learn in this cartoon drawing class:

From Charles Adams to Gary Larsen, the single frame has always provided enough for some cartoonists to get their point across.

You will learn:
  • This class will teach you to investigate the concepts and techniques that make a successful single frame cartoon. 
  • Materials, presentation, drawing fundamentals and mastery of technique are all part of this fun, challenging class, perfect for anyone who wants to build a portfolio or a collection of work. 
  • Emphasis on writing, visual composition, drawing and developing your own style.
Q&A

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one? 
A: No, make-up classes are not allowed since other classes may be full. Further, instructors are paid based on the number of students within their own classes, so attending a class outside your own is not allowed.

Q: Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? 
A: No. If you prefer, you can wait to get the inking supplies after the first day demo, Just come in on the first day with paper and pencil.

Materials you will need to bring to class:
  • Pencils: 
    a standard HB pencil, some Hard pencils, such as a 2h, a 3h or a 4h.
  • Waterproof Black Ink:
    No Higgens. Suggestions: Yasutomo, FW, Doc Martin, Speedball 
  • Ultra Black.One Speedball Sketching Nib Set (also called “mapping” nibs):
    These come with black long black holder and a shorter brown pen holder pith multiple nib sizes.
  • Cheap nylon watercolor brushes: 
    Variety pack of brushes. Brushes should come to a point, be short handled and be sized any where between .005 and 7
  • Sketchpad: 
    Suggestions - Bristol Plate Surface, Aquabees Multi Media pad or Fabriano smooth 
  • Optional: 
    In addition, if you can get a pad of Strathmore toned tan paper and a white charcoal pencil, or colored or grey pastel paper (not black) .

Refund Policy

In the event that some or all of the meetings of the program cannot happen in person, programs will be held at the scheduled time in a virtual format via a video conferencing platform. The programs will continue through hands-on, at-home activities, lectures, presentations, and/or group discussions. No refunds will be issued should any portion of a course be held virtually.

We are not responsible for providing makeup classes or issuing refunds for programs missed as a result of illness, emergencies or other events beyond our control.

There are no refunds for outings, classes or workshops that meet fewer than three times per semester.

If you are unable to attend, you may contact [email protected] prior to the first date for a receipt that enables you to claim your contribution as a tax-deductible gift.

Unless otherwise noted in program description, the following schedule applies to programs which meet three times or more per semester:

  • To receive a 95% refund, written request must be received 14 business days prior to the first session.
  • To receive a 75% refund, written request must be received at least 2 business days prior to the first session.
  • To receive a 50% refund, written request must be received at least 2 business days prior to the second session.
  • After that, refunds cannot be granted.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected]

Refunds are computed from the date written notice is received. To receive a refund, you must enclose the original of your confirmation letter.

Please allow three to four weeks for processing of your refund request.

Processing fees, membership fees, auditions fees and class or exercise cards are not refundable. No cash refunds.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
