Dental Staff School of Tennessee is a post-secondary career school offering hands-on, skill focused, dental career training. Our mission is to provide practical and affordable lifelong learning opportunities for dental health care professionals with educational activities that aim to increase knowledge, develop skills, enhance practice performance, and improve the health status of patients.
The philosophy of the Dental Staff School of Tennessee is based on a belief that people can be trained in a relatively short period of time provided there is focus on the critical skills necessary to enter the world of professional Dental Assisting. Our course is developed by experienced Dentists and experienced practicing Dental Assistants working in the dental community every day.
Choosing a career as a Dental Assistant is a smart decision, since entry-level dental professionals are very much in demand now. According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, employment of Dental Assistants is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2020. In fact, Dental Assisting careers are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2022.
About half of Dental Assistants have a 35 to 40-hour work week, which may include work on Saturdays or evenings. The starting pay scale for experienced dental assistants is considerably higher than non-experienced. We are often asked what a graduate from our course should expect to make in their first job. The answer depends on where the office is located. Offices in a metropolitan area generally pay higher salaries than those in suburban areas. Graduates of our course can expect to start well above the pay scale of those without experience, but less than experienced assistants.
As a student, you should plan on at least 6-8 hours of homework each week. The Dental Staff School of Tennessee offers web-based learning support as well as a hands-on learning environment.
