Regina Lyubovnaya

Teaches at Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art

Regina Lyubovnaya is a Russian born artist whose first interest in painting was sparked by her visits with her grandparents to the national museum of art in Moscow. It is among these treasures that she first experienced a sweet addiction to the beauty and mystery of painting, and it is where the painterly realism of the old masters (Rembrandt, Velazquez and Rebera) captivated her. Regina started her education in Russia, interrupted by immigration in 1989, she continued her studies at Loyola Marymount University, Art Center College of Design, Florence Academy of Art in Italy and, Student League of New York. In 2000, Regina was fortunate to meet and begun studying with David Leffel, who has been the major influence in her art. Regina is passionate about teaching, and has taught for many years. Regina believes that painting is a pursuit of beauty and intelligence, it is very logical and absolutely addicting. She paints because “there is nothing like being in a state of meditation, translating reality into brushstroke and abstraction of paint.”
