Social Media Hands-On Workshop

While Facebook is still the largest social network, there are hundred of millions of people using the "other" social media sites, and whether you're interested in personal or professional use, Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat are important ways to communicate, find information and reach people. 

These social media networks aren't just for celebrities, experts, journalists, photographers or specific age ranges and are useful for both personal and professional activity if you know how they work, what they do and how to use them. 

In this hands-on workshop, we'll set up your account on Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat and connect with each other "live" while we learn how to share photos, tweets, and Snaps in these apps. From using hashtags in a tweet to applying filters in Instagram, this class will enable you can see how these social media apps work in action on your smartphone (sorry, Instagram and SnapChat require a smartphone and won't work on a laptop or desktop).

Here's what will happen in class:

• Create our accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and SnapChat
• Upload a profile photo (we can take one in class if needed)
• Write our profile description for Twitter
• Follow other workshop attendees on Twitter and Instagram (can unfollow later if desired)
• Connect with other workshop attendees on SnapChat  (can unfriend later if desired)
• Learn the sharing options for each of these exciting social networks
• Apply filters
• Learn how to receive direct messages
• Post from Instagram to Facebook (if you have a Facebook account)

Since we'll all be connecting in the workshop, you'll have the opportunity to make new connections with people who are all learning just like you and above all, the class will be fun! If we have time, I'll try to cover Pinterest.

What you'll need for this class:

• A smartphone
• Your app store login and ID (you can download Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat before class).
• A profile picture that's on your smartphone, or we will take one in class
• A short ten word description of yourself
• An idea for a username that's less than 12 characters
