Excel (Mac) Basics: Your First Worksheets

This half-day session introduces you to Excel's interface and fundamental capabilities. By the end of the session, you will be easily getting around in Excel's Ribbon-based interface, able to enter and edit labels and values, write basic math formulas, use calculation functions, move and copy entries and duplicate formulas using absolute and relative referencing.

• controlling your view of a worksheet
• zooming and switching views
• closing a workbook and exiting Excel

• creating a new workbook
• entering labels and values
• switching between worksheets
• entering dates and months
• extending a series of dates or months
• editing and clearing entries
• undoing mistakes
• moving and copying entries

• inserting and deleting cells, rows and columns
• changing column width and row height
• inserting and deleting worksheets
• renaming a worksheet
• applying color to a worksheet tab
• rearranging worksheets

Printing Worksheets

• controlling paper size, orientation and scaling
• determining the print area
• setting print titles to repeat on each page
• adding headers and footers
• inserting and removing page breaks
• managing print options

Prerequisites: This class is ideally suited for people with at least basic computing skills, such as using a mouse and opening and closing windows. Typing skills are helpful, but no spreadsheet experience is required.
