What you'll learn in this photoshop class:

Get creative with Photoshop.

Step into the world of visual design with General Assembly. During our introductory workshop, explore Photoshop, a powerful tool used by visual designers, marketers, and UX/UI professionals around the world. These techniques can be used to bring websites, marketing materials, and more to life. Have you always wondered about the difference between "raster" and "vector?" And how Photoshop deals with each? How do layers work, and how about typography and colorspaces? And what about photo editing? Part lecture, part activity, this workshop will let you jump in and start using Photoshop today.

Working through a series of guided demos, you’ll:
  • Touch on essential design principles including composition, color theory, and typography.
  • Learn the basics of Photoshop and how to use it.
  • Replicate an artifact using layers, tools, and more.
  • Survey today’s digital design landscape and its career opportunities.
  • Familiarize yourself with Photoshop, a standard tool in digital design.
  • Describe the fundamentals of digital design.
  • Apply select design fundamentals into a digital design (create a homepage screen using Photoshop)
  • Articulate the current design landscape, including careers and opportunities to learn more about the topic area.
Students need to have the Photoshop trial downloaded and ready to go.

Download the creative brief and class assets before the class. Students will be expected to have Photoshop and activity assets downloaded on their computers ahead of time.
School Notes:
For students enrolling in 12 week part time and immersive classes, it is not recommended that you book more than one class simultaneously.

The class started 35 minutes late and just went down hill from there. We had to speed through the introduction & background which seemed like it would have been interesting if we had more time. We dived immediately into photoshop. There was NO EXPLANATION of the fundamentals of photoshop. I took this course because I thought we would cover the basic tools and fundamentals of photoshop as the class title suggests. I think the experience is different depending on the class instructor. For $55, this class is not worth it. You will learn my watching youtube videos.

The teacher came 35 minutes late. It's ok, I understand we're in LA and that happens but watch a teacher go through a text presentation during a Photoshop class is just awful. By the time she finally got to the software, 65 minutes has passed. There was no preparation and it was not hands on. I feel like if I watch YouTube videos I would learn how to use Photoshop. Just disappointing!

Although I did learn a little bit from this class and I am glad that I attended this class but the teacher had a less than ideal attitude and acted as if she couldn't care less to be there. thanks!

Instructor did a great job of getting through the lesson while answering the class' general and individual questions. Definitely a great class for the price.

Took this photoshop fundamentals 3 hr class and ended with wanting Gerrit to be my full time professor. He was excellent and very thorough. I would recommend his class to people interested in UX design. :)
