What you'll learn in this unique class:

This fun, activity filled, course will help students and their families save serious money on energy bills, by using critical thinking skills to analyze the householdenergy billin an effort to become more energy efficient. Students will also learn some real life math while learning how to become energy detectives. This course also discusses several job and career opportunities available in energyand green fields, such as Energy Auditor, Solar Power Technician, Wind Turbine Technician, Waste Water Manager, Rainwater Harvester, or Waste Management and Recycling. 

Topics include "Where is the money for energy rebates?" and "How do I get some of it?" Students will be given homework assignments requiring 10-15 hours of measurement and record-keeping at home between the first and second meeting of class. 

By completing the workshop, homeowners will develop specific strategies to save hundreds, and possibly thousands of dollars on their annual energy bills. All students will receive a Certificate of Home Energy Auditing if they attend both class meetings and submit measurements and estimated cost savings.

Note: $22 material fee paid at time of registration.

Location notes:
  • Room numbers are provided to students once the registration is completed. 
  • Students can purchase a semester parking permit from the Community Services Office for $10 or purchase a daily permit from the dispensing machines at each parking lot/structure for $2.

Refund Policy
There are no refunds or transfers after a class begins. Requests to withdraw from a class or transfer to another Community Services class must be done 3 OR MORE DAYS prior to the first class meeting. There is a $5 service charge per class for each refund or transfer requested. If you enrolled in a class less than 3 days prior to the first class meeting, NO refunds will be given. There are no refunds or credits for absences and late registrations are not pro-rated. Missed class meetings may not be made up in another class.
