What you'll learn in this kids photography class:

Last year, Atwater Photo Camp expanded from LA to 28 states and Canada! And this year we have campers joining us from South America, Europe, Asia and Australia! Now campers get to make work and become friends with kids from around the world. When campers share assignments with others across the globe, it inherently cultivates empathy, which folds seamlessly into APC’s mission to learn about ourselves through photography.

Our counselors are professional photographers who understand how to ignite passion and curiosity in a virtual setting. This is often a very different set of skills from teaching in person; it requires the instructors to be entertainers as well as a coaches. We infuse our adventures with technical & artistic lessons, leading campers to discover things for themselves. And we inspire them to lead as well. We’ve got this down!

On Friday we host an exhibit where campers showcase their work for friends & family. Ultimately everyone receives a gallery of all images.

We learn through instruction and practice how to make images, rather than take them. Ultimately campers develop their photographic eye and learn new ways of seeing. Just like any language, we learn bits of (visual) vocabulary and how to use them together to express ourselves. By conjuring emotion, we tap into our own identity. In this way photography becomes so much more than making pretty pictures.

Hope you can  join us!

I was wondering how strict the age limit is. My son is 6 and has an interest in photography. Thanks.
Answer from Elijah C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
If we have young kids in class with adults, the kids may get bored. I teach kids in a very different way than adults. Truthfully I try to teach each individual in a way that will resonate with them. Either way, students will go home with materials and lots of images.
