This workshop will focus on Jessie’s signature style of crazy patchwork and needle turned appliqué combined with fine hand embroidered illustration and the use of hand stitched text will also be explored.
This workshop will start with a simple talk and demonstration by Jessie about how to start your own small patchwork. Jessie will then go on to direct you as a group and individually, as she helps you to create your own small patchwork story quilt in her signature style of stitch and appliqué.
You will be working on a natural linen fabric as your base, and to let your story unfold on and in to, using mainly small fabric pieces. You will be show by Jessie various favorite stitch techniques combined with simple needle turned appliqué to create your own stitched story patchwork. You will be encouraged to work quickly to build up your base patchwork, thus allowing you time to then work back in to your patchwork. You will work in to areas of your patchwork to create a story, using the simple stitch techniques of running, couching and stem stitch.
You will be given a simple kit in person from Jessie for this workshop. Please bring with you any favorite fabric scraps these can be small scraps in soft whites or various colors and patterns. Odd small paper scraps ie old postcards, letters, book pages. Favorite embroidery threads, odd charms, buttons and other personal ephemera are also good to bring as they may become stitched in to your story during this workshop.
Coffee/tea, lunch and asperos served.
