What you'll learn in this clothing class:

Learn the basic principles of draping fabric over a dress form, including style lines, fit and balance.

While the majority of companies in the fashion industry no longer use draping as part of the design process, draping is still a key skill which allows apparel designers to understand what makes a great fit and how to achieve it. If a garment sample has a poor fit, a designer who is familiar with darts and seams can spot what’s causing the fit issue and advise the factory on how to correct the issue at hand.

Furthermore, the art of draping isn’t close to obsolete. High fashion, couture houses, evening wear and lingerie companies still create most of their lines this way. When draping, the designer can test out what their apparel design will look like on a body, and immediately correct any fit or design problems before putting anything permanent down on paper. In addition, some apparel designs are simply impossible to make via flat patternmaking and need to be draped first. Consequently, some fabrics also need to be experimented with on a dress form to see how they behave.

In this Beginner Fashion Draping Workshop you will be guided in manipulating, then transferring the draped muslin onto pattern paper and fine tuning (truing) the pattern lines to finally creating your own basic garment.

In just 2 sessions of 6 hours each, you will have the tools and a finish basic pattern to use for future projects.
