This specialized and focused course thoroughly explores the three distinct gray color families: cool grays, warm grays, and French grays, offering a genuinely unique approach to sophisticated grayscale colored pencil artwork and tonal expression. Students begin by mastering fundamental colored pencil techniques and foundational concepts that apply universally across all projects and artistic approaches. The curriculum teaches proven, time-tested methods for achieving rich, nuanced tonal values and creating impressive visual depth in artwork through an organized, easy-to-follow progression that builds your skills systematically and effectively. This course is particularly well-suited for dedicated students who genuinely love working with colored pencils but prefer to concentrate on tonal values, subtle gradations, and sophisticated grayscale compositions rather than full-color palettes and complex color theory. Students will complete a meaningful collection of finished, professional-quality grayscale artworks throughout the course progression and receive an official certificate of completion upon successfully finishing the entire program.
Course Philosophy: This is explicitly not a "copy-the-teacher" format where all students create identical images. Instead, you'll develop your unique artistic voice within the grayscale medium.
Class Schedule Information: The Wednesday 3:30 PM in-studio class is specifically designed as an after-school program for school-age children and fits their schedule.
Prerequisites: Drawing with Graphite 101 or equivalent drawing experience with demonstrated foundational skills and basic technical competency.
