Description
What you'll learn in this craft class:
Spend the day, virtually, with Jody Alexander from Wishi Washi Studio learning the fine art of mending, while making a needle book to hold your sewing notions.
Learn Japanese and French mending techniques and them turn your sampler into a needle book! In the first portion of this workshop we will look at examples of Japanese and French textile mends and then students will learn a variety of them while stitching on a linen sampler. After the techniques are practiced the sampler will be used to create a functional needle book. This workshop is great for students wanting to learn useful mending techniques while making something useful that can be used or given as a gift. Suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers alike.
All materials are provided for this workshop, including a Stitch Kit with the following items:
- Piece of Linen for Sampler/Book Cover
- French General Fabric and Antique Scraps
- 2 pieces of Felt 4 x 6 each for Pages
- Thin Sashiko Threads: Pearl and Mustard
- Sashiko Needles
- Applique Pins
- Fugitive Marking Pen
- Handout and Template
You will also need a pair of snips and fabric scissors.
Your kit will be sent out to you upon registration.
The Zoom link for Saturday, January 9th will be sent to you two days before the workshop.

Mending Sampler Needle Book
I was so happy I took this class! I wasn't sure if my sewing skills would be good enough to complete the project, but the teacher walked us through, step-by-step. At first I thought the course might be too long, but it was exactly the right amount of time to finish the Boro stitched needle book in one day. We learned mending techniques that were used on the inside and outside cover, as well as how to put the book together. There was a bit of history included to give us historic and cultural context. The setting was lovely, my classmates were nice and supportive, and both the snacks and lunch were absolutely delicious! Getting to shop during breaks was fun as well. I highly recommend this class.
