Description

Cook.Learn.Grow. is a mobile cooking school for kids, designed to create food literacy among children ages 5 to 18 through after-school classes, summer camps and family friendly events held in host facilities; schools, churches, community centers and private venues. The curriculum takes cues from education standards with the goal of reinforcing math, reading, science, art and social skills – the very things cooking is about. Cook.Learn.Grow. also embraces cooking as a means to help kids build self-confidence and develop the lasting skills needed for a healthy, independent lifestyle – all the while having fun. In short, kids will cook.learn.grow!

Austin, Texas-based Cook.Learn.Grow. was founded by Lori Hinze. After teaching at public school for 10 years and offering private children’s cooking classes on the side, Lori left the chalkboard for the cutting board and headed to the French Culinary Institute in NYC. During that time, she volunteered at the James Beard House and had the privilege of cooking alongside some of the nation’s most notable chefs.

Since 2009, Lori has made the kitchen her full-time classroom. She is passionate about bringing integrity back to the dinner table and teaching and inspiring people – especially children – to choose real, unprocessed food. These passions are also shared by the experienced and certified teachers and professional chefs who make up her Cook.Learn.Grow. team.

In addition to running Cook.Learn.Grow., Lori has taught classes to youth in Israel, using food as tool for peace. She has also taught classes through Central
Market’s Cooking School and the Junior League’s “Kids in the Kitchen” Program. In addition to blogging, creating recipes and consulting, she has also been a guest chef at Becker’s Vineyards during the Annual Lavender Festival and been featured on local Fox News in Austin and Houston. In 2007, she was the honored recipient of Walmart’s “Teacher of the Year” award.
