Julie Cartier & Stephanie Paul

Teaches at Dance Center Evanston

Julie Cartier artistic director of Especially Tap Chicago Dance Company, has performed and choreographed on both the jazz and tap concert stages for over fifteen years with some of Chicago's finest dance companies including River North Dance Co., The Lynda Martha Dance Co., and Chi-Town Jazz Dance, for which she served as associate director . Her credits also include Especially Tap Chicago's performances in the Kuopio Dance Festival in Finland, the St. Louis Tap Festival, and Chicago's own Human Rhythm Project. In additon to Dance Center Evanston, Julie has taught for Barat College, DEA, NADA, CNADM, Gus Giordano Dance Center, the Cecchetti Council and numerous studios in the Chicagoland area.

Stephanie Paul is a Founder, Artistic Director and ensemble member of Be the Groove, a Chicago-based rhythmic performance ensemble. Her work with Be the Groove has been seen at numerous venues, including Chicago's Harris Theater, Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Ravinia and most notably the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman. Stephanie's performances have been described by the Chicago Tribune as "beguiling and passionate," and the Chicago Sun-Times noted her work as "brilliantly percussive." Stephanie is an Artistic Associate with Chicago Dance Crash and is on staff at Dance Center Evanston. She has taught at her alma mater, Northwestern University, Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, Tulsa's Dance Profusion Project and Ivivva's Inaugural Dreams Dance Convention. Stephanie's choreography has been set on numerous universities and companies including Ohio Northern University, Northwestern University, Chicago Dance Crash, and the Evanston Dance Ensemble. She also works extensively in theater as a Resident Director for Albany Park Theater Project providing direction, choreography and music forLearning Curve, God's Work, I Will Kiss These Walls, Home/Land, and Feast. Additional theater credits include composition and music direction for The Royale (American Theater Company - Jeff Award Nomination), movement consultation for Water by the Spoonful (Court Theatre), movement direction for 6 Stories Tall (Adventure Stage Chicago) and movement direction for Lookingglass Theatre's LAB program. Stephanie has been featured on WTTW's My Chicago and is committed to the exploration of music and movement as integral components of storytelling. She is grateful to work alongside an incredible staff and teach the passionate students of Dance Center Evanston!
