What you'll learn in this canning class:

Our Cooking Lab classes teach the basic science and techniques all cooks need to know, and will teach you to understand the causes and effects of your actions in the kitchen. We examine various cooking methods and ingredients to discover parallels that will amaze you. Your view of cooking may well be transformed!
 
In today's class, we'll teach you all about the specific tools, techniques and canning ingredients so you have a solid understanding of how to properly "put up" this summer's fruits and veggies to enjoy them for months to come. Gain the knowledge to work with different types of pectin, how to prepare your mason jars and how to safely can in a water bath.

Once you get started you won't be able to stop! These make wonderful gifts for family and friends, or keep them for yourself! Each student will take home at least one jar of each recipe.

  • Peach-Vanilla Jam
  • Red and Green Hot Pepper Jelly
  • Roasted Poblano and Fresh Tomato Salsa.
A variety of snacks will be provided so you can taste your way throughout the class.

Skills Covered in Class Include: 
  • Understanding Canning and Pickling
  • Selecting Produce for Canning
  • Preparing Pickling Brines
  • Balancing Flavors
  • Working with Pectin
  • Using Herbs, Spices and Aromatic Ingredients. 
Due to the layout of our kitchens and in consideration of your classmates, students will work in groups of 3 to 5 people. Parties of 6 or more will be directed to our private events department so we can accommodate them appropriately.

Refund Policy

A one-week notice is required for cancellation of any class. If you do not cancel by telephone at least 1 week in advance of your scheduled class, we will charge your credit card in full for the class. Please feel free to send a friend in your place if you cannot attend and it is within one week of the class as no refunds will be available. All classes also have a non-refundable, non-transferable 10% fee for the operational and administrative costs incurred by The Chopping Block. This service fee will not be refunded and cannot be transferred in the case of any cancellation.

Please note: all virtual class sales are final. All virtual students will receive a recording of the class within 48 hours of the class.

    Loved the class! Learned tricks and tips, and all about water-bath canning. Lots of hands on activity and got to bring home sample jars of all we made! So we'll organized! Every question ask was answered! Our instructors were great!

    I truly truly loved it, any more canning and preserving classes would be great. I would enjoy learning how to can tomatoes and green beans, and learn to make kruat and kimchi. Thank you so much for this class, if I get a chance to do it again I surely will.
