Students must be experienced with flat, even count peyote stitch, but they do not have to take any of the previous Geometric Beadwork classes before taking another.
Class Topics:
TRIANGLES | Jan 18, Apr 18 or Sep 19: This class will focus on making triangles using circular peyote with herringbone increases. Students receive written instructions which include details for connecting their triangles to complete a Kaleidocycle. By the end of class students will have completed at least one (hopefully two or three) peyote triangles.
WARPED SQUARES | Feb 15 or Jul 18: This class will focus on making warped squares (think triangle with four sides) and will also demonstrate how to create an opening in the work. By the end of class students will have completed one or more warped squares. Students will leave with written instructions for the basic square and information about creating an opening within the square.
PODCAST BEAD | Mar 21 or Oct 17: This class will focus on making a podcast bead to use as a starter for a zigged bangle or cuff. Students will complete one podcast bead and if time permits will begin the zigged bangle. Students will leave with information about starting a zigged bangle in the round or as a flat cuff, and will have information about removing it from the podcast bead.
DETONATION & DECONSTRUCTION | Jun 20: Students will use a podcast bead as a template or“casting” bead for starting a new piece of work. They will learn to add “detonation” beads to simplify the removal of the work. By the end of class they will have completed at least one sample of new work that has been removed from the “casting” bead. The class fee includes a small podcast bead so students do not have to complete one prior to class.
HEXAGON INCREASE | Aug 15: The Hexagon Increase is a 3-step repeating pattern. On the CGB site it is used to create the Hexagon Wave that is cast from a 24-point podcast bead. But it can be started from any size podcast bead and can be worked “in the round,” or stitched as a flat piece. In this class students will learn the 3-step repeating pattern using a small podcast bead to start, adding detonation beads for easy removal. By the end of class students will have completed several rounds of the hexagon increase and can choose to remove the work from the podcast bead by snipping off the detonation beads, or to continue stitching and remove the work on their own. The class fee includes a small podcast bead so students do not have to complete one prior to class.
Prerequisite:
For all classes students must be experienced with flat, even count peyote stitch! Familiarity with herringbone and right angle weave is also helpful. Students do not have to take any of the previous Geometric Beadwork classes before taking another.

If you are coming by car, the easiest way to get here is on the Eisenhower Expressway (290). Oak Park borders Chicago due west of Chicago’s downtown. From O’Hare airport, take 294 south to 290 east. From Chicago, take 290 west from 90/94 or downtown.
From the east: Exit 290 at Austin Blvd. At the end of the exit ramp, make a right turn onto Austin (you'll be travelling north). The first street has a traffic light and that is Harrison St. Turn left and drive 3 1/2 blocks. Bead in Hand will be on your left. The shop is just before the first stop sign you come to at Harrison and Lombard Ave.

The most common mistake is exiting at Harlem Ave., because Harrison Street does not go all the way through to Harlem. (But if you like getting confused, this is the place to do so, because east of Harlem is Oak Park and west of Harlem is Forest Park. In Oak Park, Harrison Street is parallel to the expressway on its north side, while in Forest Park Harrison Street is parallel to the expressway on its south side. See, wasn't that fun?)
If you are taking public transportation, the easiest way to get here is the CTA Blue Line. Take the train marked Forest Park. Exit the train at Austin Blvd. Walk west toward Lombard Avenue. When you get to the top of the stairs, you’ll be on the Lombard Ave. bridge over the Eisenhower Expressway. Turn right (north) and walk one block to the stop sign at Harrison Street. Turn right again (east) and Bead in Hand is just a few doors down on the same side of the street.
Parking
There is often street parking in front, but if not, turn onto Lombard and park along Lombard. There is metered parking right near the corner, but if you drive a little further you can park on the street for free. There is also parking on weekdays and Saturdays in the parking lot just east of us, off of Taylor Ave. (next to the church).
