What you'll learn in this figure drawing class:

In this course we shall start with proportion and foreshortening of the human figure, at which point we’ll simplify the figure geometrically. We shall further explore gesture and character of the human form through study and croquis (quick-sketch) using a live model. Students will also learn basic anatomy of the human body and head. Towards the end of the course a class will be dedicated solely to portrait drawing. Students are strongly encouraged to work at home and attend Open Studio: Figure Drawing sessions during and after the course, as continuous practice is crucial to your development.

The course is comprised of 8 two-hour classes.

Materials:
  • pencils (6H, 2H, H, 4B, 6B)
  • vine charcoal (optional)
  • eraser (regular eraser, kneaded eraser aka ‘putty rubber’)
  • pencil sharpener
  • drawing pad (recommended size: 12x18 and up)
You will receive an email with more in-depth information about materials when you register.

Arrivals: Please arrive 10 min early to set up your working space; instructors will start their lectures promptly at the beginning of each class.

What to bring and what to wear: Please bring your supplies as instructed. Please try not to come in nice clothes. We have aprons, but accidental splashes do occur.
