What you'll learn in this composition class:

Composition in the Field: Boston Waterfront Skyline Sunset Shoot

The Boston Waterfront is one of the most beautiful, exciting, and enriching locations in all of Boston. Relaxing along the marina, you can gaze at the Boston skyline where the skyscrapers lay reflected in the water, strolling along the wharf, you can visit the New England Aquarium or the Boston Children’s Museum, two of Boston’s greatest venues, and standing by the Harbor, you can be overcome by the history and stories of the waterfront. After all, this was the site of the Boston Tea Party! So join your Digital Photo Academy instructor to experience the history and culture of the amazing Boston Waterfront!

The Waterfront offers a variety of subjects to shoot and styles to shoot in. Experiment with new angles in colonial and modern architecture, combine nature with urban life in the Harbor’s reflection, and shoot portraits of local fishermen.

Capture endearing candids of children playing along the marina and action shots of cars zooming past historical landmarks.

Shooting alongside a professional photographer, you will learn new techniques that foster a strong image. Practice leading lines along the marina, apply the rule of thirds to architectural angles, and boost the colors found in Boston’s skyline.

Learn how to utilize clouds as your backdrop and blur or enhance the reflection of the skyscrapers in the water.

Note: We will meet outside New England Aquarium located at 1 Central Warf, Boston, MA 02110. Meeting place at bench in park, across from Harbor Garage Entrance. Please bring your DSLR or another type of digital camera that you use, a fully-charged battery, and the equipment that you can carry. You should dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates).  There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.

You will have fun in the three hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.

Take this course if you:
  • Want to apply what you have learned in our DSLR/Point and Shoot classes out in the field
  • Want to test your camera’s capabilities side by side with your instructor in amazing locations
  • Want to appreciate local areas in a whole new way and capture amazing images that will last a lifetime
  • Want to meet and learn from some of our 100+ instructors across the country
