If you’ve ever spoken to, read about, or been a 20 something, you know how tumultuous this phase can be. You’re tasked with finding a job to support your life while trying to keep that promise you made as a child to do something that makes you happy. It’s not easy. There’s a lot to learn in your 20s. Luckily, there are plenty of classes to help you get there.

  1. Take a cooking class. While you’ll always have your favorite takeout place on call, your 20s are the perfect time to learn to cook for yourself. In addition to saving money, it’s empowering knowing how to cook for yourself (not to mention, impressive when you cook for others). Whether you want to learn everything there is to know about cooking, or just how to master one specific meal, there are plenty of cooking classes to get you there.
  2. Pursue a creative outlet. Art classes are the perfect way to explore fun and interesting hobbies, from glass-blowing and metal working to pottery and painting classes. Not only will you meet new people and exercise your creative side, art also enhances your ability to read, write, and think.
  3. Learn another language.  Living in the United States, we’ve become comfortable with just speaking English. However, knowing a second language not only gives you a deeper insight into other cultures, but can also boost your resume. There are hundreds of language learning opportunities across the city.
  4. Understand how to manage (and save) your money.  Most 20 somethings are horrible at saving their money. While a mortgage and your retirement may seem far away, they’ll sneak up sooner than you might think. It’s never a bad idea to learn how to save and when to spend. Personal finance classes teach you about money and saving basics, allowing you to be smart about your income. Your future self will thank you.
  5. Master the art of storytelling. Storytelling has a been a basic human tendency for thousands of years. It’s a means of recording history, learning about others, and a way to sell yourself or an idea. There a plenty of storytelling classes out there that focus on business and personal storytelling. Every interesting and successful person knows how to tell at least one good story. You should too.
  6. Learn to code. The prevalence of technology is only going to become stronger with time. Understanding various computer programs, from Excel to Photoshop, as well as coding basics, will be important to remain relevant and qualified throughout your career.
  7. Take a class that will keep you interesting. One of the quickest ways to become a boring person is to stop fueling your interest in new things or learning about the things you love. Take a pole dancing class, a glass blowing class or an acrobatics class just to say you did. You might even find something new to love.
