Description

We're a photography studio in business since 2009, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in architecture and fine art photography, and do commercial work for resorts around the world. We've participated in several prominent art fairs, and sell our fine art at a beautiful art gallery in San Francisco.

We also teach a popular beginner's photography class on weekends. If you're new to digital photography or just want to brush up your skills, check out our class and never miss a memory because you didn't know how to capture it with your DSLR.

"Isla" [pronounced ees'-lah] is Spanish for island. The name is inspired from a beautiful island near Cabo San Lucas in Mexico where Mel (the original founder) was vacationing when he decided to start the business a few years ago. Since mid-2012, Isla Studio has been owned and managed by Mel's friend and lead photographer Lindsay Baum.

The course was very helpful in learning the basics of photography. The examples provided really helped understanding what the effects of each setting would do. I also liked the smaller class size so the instructor was able to come around to help you set up your specific camera. It was extremely insightful and I would definitely recommend this to beginners!

I think the class and the teacher were good. But the amount of people too much. When I read about the class I was under the impresión that it was going to be more than one teacher to assist us with questions. I got out of the class with some knowledge, but more confuse in how to use my camera.

Evan was great. Very informative class. I've been trying to get aperture to stick in my brain in a way that I can understand and Evan, with one sentence, made it so. And while it doesn't necessarily make sense to me WHY it is how it is... at least now, I get it! Looking forward to future classes (and getting the powerpoint from class.)

Terminology and material are easy to digest. Environment was relaxed and comfortable. There was plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Learned a lot and I recommend the course for beginners! I'm just nit-picking here: - presentation should be emailed at least same day as the class so that people can refer to it immediately. an alternative would be to print the presentation as a handout so ppl can write notes if needed. - jot down the list of questions that weren't answered at the time it was asked but weren't answered because "we would get to it later" to make sure that the class/instructor did end up addressing those questions later.

Super helpful! Jayrol explained every concept in clear detail. He even took the time to examine our individual cameras and show us their specific controls and interesting features. He answered all my questions and gave me personalized recommendations. I feel so much more confident having taken this class with him.

I thought the class was informational, for sure. We did finish the class 30 minutes early and felt even though it turned into a question and answer session, it became very camera specific and did not really help in that respect. I enjoyed the 2 ½ hours though.
