Description
What you'll learn in this weaving class:
Always wanted to be Rapunzel? Bought a wheel or are thinking of it? Want to learn how to useit? Learn the mechanics of the wheel and how to use it to create several different beautiful yarns. Basic drafting skills necessary.
Prerequisite:
Must have taken Spinning 1 Basic Module or have demonstrated ability in drafting and spinning a basic single.
Module 1 – Weeks 1 - 2: Basic Spinning & Plying
Week 1: Wheel Mechanics and Basic Spinning
Week 2: Navajo Plying using the Lazy Kate
Module 2 – Weeks 3, 4 & 5: Spinning Textured Yarns
Week 3 & 4: Spiral Yarn
Week 5: Core Spinning
Module 3 – Weeks 6, 7 & 8: Boucle – Must complete modules 1 & 2 first
Week 6, 7 & 8: Boucle
Note: Materials are not included and must be purchased at our store. No outside materials will be allowed in class.

Week 1: Wheel Mechanics and Basic Spinning
- Introduction to your wheel, its parts and how it works
- Spin a singles yarn using fiber of your choice.
Week 2: Navajo Plying using the Lazy Kate
- Spin a singles yarn in the fiber of your choice
- Set up bobbin with spun singles on lazy kate for Navajo plying
Module 2 – Weeks 3, 4 & 5: Spinning Textured Yarns
Week 3 & 4: Spiral Yarn
- Spin two singles – one thick and one thin – which we will spiral ply
Week 5: Core Spinning
- Wrap a core yarn with the fiber of your choice
Module 3 – Weeks 6, 7 & 8: Boucle – Must complete modules 1 & 2 first
Week 6, 7 & 8: Boucle
- Boucle combines the techniques of corespinning and spiral ply to create a beautiful textured yarn. We will spin two singles – one thin and one slightly thicker – both in the same direction and a third thin singles in the opposite direction. The first two will be spiral-plied in the opposite direction while forming loops. We will then ply the plied loopy yarn with the third singles in the same direction as the first singles.
Note: Materials are not included and must be purchased at our store. No outside materials will be allowed in class.
