What you'll learn in this upholstery class:

In this course you will learn the fundamentals of upholstery. You will start with making a demo of a slip seat and graduate to reupholstering your very own chair.

Please see attached diagram for approved furniture styles: http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8854/00ta.jpg

You will learn skills such as blind stitching, piping (as well as double piping), tufting and tying springs. All tools and materials are provided with the exception of all supplies needed for your personal reupholstery project completed on Day 2.

Estimated price for personal materials should be less than $150.

Day one:
You will learn the basic anatomy of an upholstered chair.  The class will start with a slide presentation followed a demonstration of how to make a slip cover using materials such as: webbing, burlap, foam, muslin and upholstery fabric.  More advanced skills such as tying springs, double piping, finishing tacks will be demonstrated in the afternoon.  By the end of day you will complete a slip cover demonstrating the skills learned in class.

Day two:
In the morning, we'll review information covered in Day 1. You will bring your own piece to reupholster (see attached diagram for permitted pieces), with the goal of your piece needing at least 3 of the techniques taught on the previous day.  We will work for the remainder of the day reupholstering your chair or ottoman.  Open Studio time is extended one week after the Weekend Intensive for you to work independently to finish your projects.

We suggest purchasing supplies from Zarin's or Joe's Fabrics in NYC.

Attended: Weaving 101 - Weekend Intensive

this is a very good class. Kira our instructor was excellent in that it was definitely a hands on program. We learned terminology as we needed it, we learned all the aspects a beginning weaver should know. Kira was encouraging and supportive of the project choices, when there were problems and questions. I highly recommend this class for anyone who is interested in weaving .

Attended: Screen Printing 101

Anonymous gave this class 5 out of 5 CourseHorse stars.

Attended: Leather Apparel Sewing

I thought the teacher was great and overall it was a good experience. I was disappointed in the facilities. It's not ideal to sew leather on home sewing machines, especially ones that aren't in proper working condition. Students had to share sewing machines.

Attended: Leather Working

The instructor Cat was very informative and gave excellent instruction and problem solving in leather working. We were able to learn several techniques that were applicable in many ways in a short amount of time. It would be helpful if there was the next level of class offered after this - an intermediate to advanced to work on techniques and to learn more solutions.

Attended: Felting 101 with STATE

A fabulous course! Adrienne was so helpful, patient, encouraging, inspiring. She showed us multiple techniques and we each made 4 different items, like table runners, kindle covers, bowls, bags, and wall hangings. She even helped me do a nuno felted runner when I asked for it, even though she didn't plan on doing any nuno felting. She provided all the materials and the workspace was roomy and comfortable. It was a great fun way to spend the weekend. Many thanks Adrienne, Marta
